Vintage salt & pepper shakers

Had a great coffee at RED Gallery last week, where our vintage salt & pepper shakers are on display. They were hand made by Jens in 1972 and given to a Nelson couple as a wedding present. The owners traded them back with us, and we recently had the opportunity to acquire them for our permanent collection. Do you think we should start making these again? Would love to hear your feedback...

 

Anniversary of The Hobbit book

The Hobbit book was published on this day (September 21st) in 1937! Legend has it Tolkien gave the manuscript to friends, and it fell in the hands of publisher Stanley Unwin, whose 10-year old son read it. Of course he loved it, so it was published..and, the literary classic was born!

The Rugby World Cup 2011 has kicked off in New Zealand, and Nelson is buzzing with excitement as we get ready to host several games!

The iconic silver fern has long been recognised as a symbol of New Zealand.  Wearing the Jens Hansen silver fern brooch (pictured top, opposite) is a stylish and understated way of showing our support for Aotearoa, and the All Blacks during the World Cup.

The transformation of an antique spoon...

A customer asked us to transform this Victorian solid sterling silver serving spoon into a ring, with the original hallmarks on the outside. The spoon has been in the Nelson woman's family since the 1890's, and the completed ring was given to a daughter.
